"Monte Dolack was named one of the centurys 100 outstanding people. He is a wonderful asset to our time."
-Rudy Autio/Artist, MT
To commemorate the centennial of the fires of 1910, Monte Dolack has been commissioned by the US Forest Service to create a poster to honor those lives that were touched by the Big Burn.

Fires of 1910, Monte Dolack,  fine art poster, 34 x 24"

June 30 - August 4, 2010

On exhibition at our Missoula gallery will be the original Fires of 1910 painting, various studies for the poster, the Fires of 1910 fine art poster and other related posters and prints by Monte Dolack. To view, click here.

The Fires of 1910 touched individuals, families, firefighters, army personnel, communities and indeed people worldwide during the summer of 1910.  As you can see by some of the eye-witness accounts, reports and excerpts from the Forest Service employees, news paper accounts and photos, the Fires had a large impact on both people and natural resources. To many residents of our communities within the Fire's impact area, the 1910 Fires are still a current topic of discussion each summer when smoke is in the air.  Many programs in the USDA Forest Service evolved from the 1910 Fires and their aftermath.  Indeed one can say that this event was the young Forest Service's "trail by fire" that led to the solidifying support of the agency during its turbulent beginning". - usfs
